Wash & Wax In A Can

A few years back, an enthusiastic C-182 owner named Adam Huber sent us a can of a new product he’d invented for cleaning and polishing his airplane called "Protect All."

We took him up on his challenge that it would not only make our airplane look and feel better but it would also fly faster because of less drag. We flew the airplane (a Cherokee 180) around and noted climb and cruise speeds and various power settings, and then returned to the airport and gave the entire fuselage, including the propeller, a Protect All bath.

All that really meant was spraying it on and wiping it off. The first thing we noticed was that running your hand along the metal surface was like sliding your fingers on freshly polished tile or glass — in other words, extremely smooth. The second that was, the airplane looked like it had just been freshly painted.

Wow. This stuff made the old bird look new again.

So it was back to the airways for some comparison tests and sure enough, we recorded an extra 100 fpm climb, a cruise speed increase of five mph and even had a little trouble getting her slowed down for that downwind to base turn. We gave it an unqualified five star rating.

We were happy. Adam was happy and people who bought the stuff were happy.

But, we reasoned, if it worked so well on an airplane, it should work great on other vehicles, too, so we doused the car and our various motorcycles with it.

It not only cleaned them but gave them a sun drenched luster that looked like a fresh wax job. Over the years, we’ve gone through dozens of cans of Protect All and now Adam has an updated version.

He sent us a case of it, along with a bunch of other products available through his Web site (www.protectall.com) including the world’s slickest knife sharpener (careful with this, it makes your blade a lethal weapon), his Protect All Wash, engine treatment and other goodies. But it’s the basic Protect All we really appreciated, especially now that it has Carnauba wax built in, along with a UV sun blocker for your paint.

Adam says his biggest customers are RVer's (of course, they have the biggest vehicles) and boaters (ditto), but his product does very well with auto and motorcycle shops as well. We don’t doubt it for a minute.

In fact, we’ve used Protect All for everything from polishing wings to freeing rusty locks to lubing chains to cleaning vinyl to polishing glass and fiberglass to shining leather. Really, this stuff is amazing and is the can of cleaner/polisher/waxer/protectant/etc. we couldn’t do without.
